If you are getting this error when try to open a Qt Project to another machine, you’re in right place: Could not start process “C:\Qt\Qt5.2.0\5.2.0\mingw48_32\bin\qmake.exe”… Error while building/deploying project ProjectName (kit: Desktop Qt 5.2.0 MinGW 32bit) When executing step ‘qmake’. I’m going to show you a little trick which will make your project being “compilable” again.
How to solve error when executing step ‘qmake’
There is no big deal.
All you have to do is to create a copy of entire project folder and paste it anywhere.
Now go into the project folder then delete all .user files (including .pro.user files).
After that you will have to open the Project File (ProjectName.pro) from project folder (the copy folder)
Then, you will get something like this:
Now click on “Configure Project” button.
Now your project should be compiled and builded fine. If not, you may Clean, Run qmake then build it again.
What is actually happening?
The .pro.user file which you have deleted contain location of your project files and project configurations. When you move your project to another machine there are other settings, like debug/release folder, compiler information and many more.
I know that there is no big deal, but it can make the trick fast so continue programming 🙂
